I have installed WP-hive plugin on a new blog.

The wordpress installation is new and has no themes installed. I installed the plugin as per the documentation.

I have done the first 3 steps but cannot activate the WP-hive plugin. There are two other plugins which come with the default installation Akismet and Hello Dolly which I can activate and deactivate easily. But clicking on the activate button for WP-hive does not do anything.

    I'm using WordPress 2.8.4 and WP-hive 0.5.

Another interesting thing that is happening is that when I activate Akismet and Hello Dolly plugins and try to activate WP-hive plugin by clicking activate one of the active plugin is deactivated.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Please ensure your /wp-content/ directory is writable. WP Hive needs to place a file in that directory.

I'm looking into issue with the other plugins being activated / deactivated. Thanks.

    running into the same problem...

    i had wp-content folder at 755
    - changed to 757 and 777 and it worked

BUT, isn't it dangerous to leave wp-content folder writable? can i change the permission back to 755 after the plugin is activated?

Yes, feel free to change it back after the plugin is working.

The plugin only needs write access so it can copy db.php into the folder when it is activated, and remove db.php from the folder when it is deactivated.
