I'm facing a small problem that probably has a simple solution. I'd like to use the same theme for each blog on the site, but would like the "About Us" and "Category" information on the sidebar to change for each blog. How can I make this happen?

Have you tried making a copy of the theme directory? I believe both directories will then show up in the Theme picker in your admin pages. You will probably want to rename one of the themes (in style.css) so that you can tell the two apart!
If your theme is widget enabled, and you are only changing the contents of widgets (in the widget admin panel) then you may not need to do that. But if you are editing theme files, making another copy is probably the way to go.
