    Hi,

I've got wordpress 2.9.1 running in a subdirectory of my domain (it's in x.org/wordpress); I've installed WP-Hive, which initially didn't want to activate; after some tweaking of write privileges I've got to the point where I should, theoretically, be adding sites.

However, and I admit I'm probably being exceptionally stupid, I can't seem to work out how to actually achieve success.

So the main blog is at:
    x.org/wordpress
the second blog I want to add, would be at:
deadbugjumping.x.org which automatically redirects to anything I want it to within x.org

I have tried a variety of things including the creation of the subdirectories (at various times) x.org/deadbugjumping, x.org/wordpress/deadbugjumping; I've tweaked the DNS records so at various points over the last days deadbugjumping.x.org has redirected to x.org/deadbugjumping, to x.org, and to x.org/wordpress

I can get to the 'add site' page, and add the following information:
    Domain Name: deadbugjumping.x.org
Sub Directory: have tried with none (/), /wordpress and /deadbugjumping
Prefix: have tried with wp_ and dbj_ (as suggested in the installation sticky).

Prior to all the tweaking with domains I was just going for having the second blog at x.org/deadbugjumping (without all the domain fiddling).

When I do this, the site is 'added' but the 'Install site' button either (depending on the combination of settings) takes me to an empty directory (/deadbugjumping); to my own preexisting journal, or to a 500 Internal Server Error.

I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong here... can you shed any light on this.

I did at one point manage to generate the subdirectory issue and wasn't able to log-in or manage any files for a few minutes, but fixed it using the fix described here: http://wp-hive.com/forums/topic.php?id=159

    I'm using WP-Hive 0.5.3, incidentally.

Sorry folks. Never mind. Decided to just use a second install of WP.

    Thanks all the same!

damm. I'm having the exact same problems with the exact same "setup".

I even tried to add subdirectories like domainName.org/wordpress/Blogs/BloggerName. with different db prefix. that gives me a Forbidden error.

Then with the same prefix, I don't have the link to 'install' and the wp-hive do something weird.. It shows the first hive site.. which is the website root. (not the wordpress root folder)

There is a 'special' file mention on the installation guide that doesn't seems to apply here because all these files are not on a normal wp root install. But they are on the root of the domain.

I wish that this thread would have been addressed.

I don't want to maintain multiple 'identical' wordpress installations.

    any help?

WP Hive works best when it is installed in the root directory (eg: http://domain.com), and then other sites are added to it.

You can only have one subdirectory in the path (eg: http://domain.com/subdirectory; NOT http://domain.com/sub/sub2/sub3).

The prefixes must be unique for the separate sites.

If you get a 'forbidden' error, or another server error, then the issue is with the configuration of the the webserver. Make sure your domains are pointed to the same directory in the webserver. Both domains must load the same index.php file.

I have wordpress installed in the root, and I've installed Hive in it successfully. I've got the public_html/wp-content/wp-hive/existingdomain.com and the original site works fine.

But when I try and add a new site , I've pointed the new domain at the same IP address, and configured Hive to use newdomain.com and /newdomain.com with a unique db prefix but when I hit install site I get http://<rejected-by-urlscan>/?~/newdomain.com

Do I need to set up a virtual host for the new domain?
