Moving sites

When I initially set up my hives, I did them in a sub-folder of my main site (i.e. - domain.com/hive). So, all my new domains are like this: domain.com/hive/site1, etc. I would now like to move everything up to the main site node (for easier navigation). I've outlined this plan, and I'd like to verify that it makes sense:

    1. Synchronize the plugins, etc. between the hive folder and the top domain folder. I don't think I can activate the WP-Hive plugin until the very end?
    2. Copy the themes.
    3. Export all of the MYSQL database tables. I'm not sure if this should/could be done all at once?
    4. Move the node up a level.
    5. Import the MYSQL tables.
    6. Fix any path statements (sitemap, etc).

    Did I forget anything?

hmmm... To be honest, I'm not quite clear on your existing set up. WP Hive does not currently work for subdirectories - it seems to me like that's how you are describing it. Can you please clarify?

If all the sites are already sharing a database, I doubt you will need to export anything.. I think the only changes you will want to make in the database are references to the siteurl / path.

There's also a concern with the path for the Uploads Directory. I did one move a little while ago, moving my hive directory down one level eg: public_html/ --> public_html/wordpress/, and it turned out a little sketchy and I haven't had a chance to fix it yet.

Moving site paths seems to be little experimental right now. It would be interesting to know if anyone else has - and if they can shed some light on it?

Sorry I haven't replied to this yet.

When I say sub-directory, it's not in the wp-hive sense, but rather in the hosting directory sense. Here's an example (like my hosting setup).

    Primary (host) domain
    |_ Wp-Hive domain (#1)
    |_Wp-Content
    |_Wp-Hive "directory"
    |_ Domain #2
    |_ Domain #3
    |_ Domain #4
    |_ Domain #5

What I'm asking is this - can I somehow eliminate "WP-Hive top domain (#1)" and instead have the sites reside under the "Primary (Host) domain". The "Primary (Host) Domain" is already a Wordpress install - it just does not have the WP-Hive plugin. If I added the WP-Hive plugin to it, would it mess up the WP-Hive "tree" somehow (in other words, would it now think "Wp-Hive top domain (#1)" is actually a "hived" domain?)

I'm probably still not being clear enough....

Would it try to resolve everything as

    Primary (host) domain
    |_ WP-Content
    |_ Wp-Hive
    |_ Wp-Hive domain (#1)
    |_Wp-Content
    |_Wp-Hive "directory"
    |_ Domain #2
    |_ Domain #3
    |_ Domain #4
    |_ Domain #5

    And really mess things up?

Dang. When I composed my response, I indented the tree structure. But, the endentation went away. I hope it's still clear. I'll reqrite the two trees here:

    Primary (host) domain
    |_Wp-Hive domain (#1)
    |___Wp-Content
    |_____Wp-Hive "directory"
    |_______Domain #2
    |_______Domain #3
    |_______Domain #4
    |_______Domain #5

    Primary (host) domain
    |_WP-Content
    |___Wp-Hive
    |_____Wp-Hive domain (#1)
    |_______Wp-Content
    |_________Wp-Hive "directory"
    |___________Domain #2
    |___________Domain #3
    |___________Domain #4
    |___________Domain #5

Sorry for the late reply. I've actually had to take some time to try to think about this, and I'm not really any closer to understanding the question.. :(

Perhaps you could try explaining it in terms of URL's that you intend to access the sites with?
