I have a question to other hivers out there. How can I best use the same theme in different hives? Do you have experience with that and/or quick/hand solutions?

I am thinking of using wp-hive to set up a multilingual website for a client. The main language is English and the other languages will get their own sub-domain, like esp.domain.com for Spanish, ned.domain.com for Dutch, etc. the name of the sub-domain has to be 3 letters to overcome the problem that wphive assigns 3 characters to the new tables of each hive.

I know that John will probably include multi languages features in the next version of WP-Hive, but I need a solution now already.

Then I of course want to use the same theme for each of the sites as they need to look the same, just with different language.

But if I use the same theme, I cannot change the language of the theme anymore, to do that I would have to make changes in the theme.

Can I just give the theme a different name and make additional changes in the renamed themes as such?

You can use two letter domain names, if you manually set the prefixes - I think we've discussed this previously. :)

If you make multiple copies of the theme, then yes, you should be able to handle it at the theme level. However, you may need to override the function in the theme that reads the "WP_LANG" constant to determine the language that the theme should use.

    Hi John,

Thanks for your response, actually was aiming for feedback from other hivers, hahaha.

Yeah I think it should be possible with copies of the theme, but only when you hardcode all languages in it. The WP Admin can then remain in English, everything else shows up in the language you have hardcoded in the theme.

However for this purpose I have also been experimenting with the WPML plugin and finally have that working. For a multi-lingual website, that plugin seems to be the best solution!

Your hive plugin is now running on a few of my websites and I must say that I'm loving it! The first time was quite difficult to get it going, but now that I understand how it works, it is very easy to implement!

Do you already have any idea for your next version?
